Repairing a roof with a smooth finish requires caution go to my blog. Flat roofs are a popular choice for many homeowners. You should take these important steps to properly maintain your roofing.
Steps to repair a flat roof
Repairing small roof damages is as simple as removing and replacing the damaged area. Use a broom to clean dirt and gravel off the damaged roof section. Use the gravel to repair your roof and do not dispose of it. Cut away damaged material with a utility-blade that has a straight edge. To cut the roof material in a rectangular form, you will need to spend some time. Roof restoration begins with cutting the first layer of material.
Cut shingles from a roof shingle or asphalt roll to replace a damaged part. The new piece should be of the same size as what you removed. Spread a thin layer plastic roofing repair compound into the hole you made. Be sure to extend your patch past the outer edge. Once the patch is correctly placed, you should nail it. Place the patch on the edge of the section. Use galvanized roofing nails spaced at 2 inches.
You can use roofing cement to cover the replacement patch. You must extend it at least 3 inches beyond the patch perimeter. On the first patch replacement, extend the length of the patch by 3 inches. The second replacement patch must be placed in the exact same manner as before and then secured in place using roofing cement.

Gravel can be swept over the surface of the patch if the cement starts to harden. You must wait until the cement is hardened before repairing the damage.
If you look at the lowest part of your flat roof, you can often find leaks. It is usually the water that collects there that damages the surface. To soak up water, use towels and absorbent fabrics. Once the area has dried completely, check for cracks and blisters. Open the blister with a knife. The blade should not penetrate too deeply, as it will only lead to further damage. Drain the water in the blister, and wait for the area to dry. Sealing the roof is very important after applying roof cement.
